This category includes a large number of works: Annual Reports of financial companies, Books, Newspapers, Prospectuses, Invitations and Greeting Cards. Only a small number of these items were retained by the Shamir brothers in their files.
In the section “In Shamir Footsteps” we share our stories of the search for rare works such as: “Ach Same'ah” (Happy Brother) - two editions of a children magazine that was designed and published by Shamir in Purim 1940; Battle pages for the Israeli Air Force from 1967; an Album “Famous Jews of the World” that was published in 1939 by the cigarette company Kedem and many other similar stories of successful detection. But, on the other hand, we have not been able to locate two booklets on “Telecommunication” that were issued by the Engineering Division of the Post Office in 1970. Some other works that we call “Lost Works” have come to our attention from newspaper articles, from old photographs in the family albums or from books and documents of the studio from the early 1970s.
The styles of their works varied in line with the wide range of needs of their numerous clients. While the designs, artwork, use of photographs and use of colours covers a wide range of styles there was an element of uniformity in the Shamir Brothers' approach to typography (creation and use of fonts). They created numerous original fonts for use in headings and texts in their works which were designed to fit the artwork and at the same time ensure ease of reading and comprehension of the message.
The efforts to discover more of printed matter artworks continues. Two lists included on this web-site can help in this task: List of Clients and List of “Lost Works”.
