A monument designed by Shamir Brothers in 1935. It illustrates the cover of the book “Forgotten soldiers – Jews in Army of Latvia 1918 - 1940)”written by asoc. prof. Eriks Jekabsons and published by the Jewish association “Shamir” in Riga (no connection with the Shamir Brothers) and funded by the family Sela and the Latvian Defence Ministry. The book was launched at the Philosophy & History Faculty at the University of Latvia in the presence of the Defence Minister Dr. Artis Pabriks. The monument commemorates the Jewish soldiers that fell during the Latvian war of independence. One of them was Lieutenant Eliezer Freidberg – an uncle of the brothers on their mother's side.
